Indigo Jones had spent a great deal of time in Al-Alin searching for clues and info that might help the outpost crew. Most of what he found would be of no immediate use but he was able to find out that the dwarves had been mining for Mithril in the mountain range north of the outpost, but they had come up empty. As well as losing many miners to 'unknown circumstances'. His one stroke of luck came when a local Smith and weapons scholar, Becker Axegrinder, asked for more about the 'Black Mineral' that was found in the 10,000 Islands. He offered 100 gold up front with 900 more to follow when the full details were written down and shared.

Out at the outpost, improvements were continuing at a rapid pace as the dwarven construction crew sent by the King were making excellent progress. Another job was added to their list, adding a wizard lab shack and shelter back by the water hole for John Z. to perform some wizard-type research. Once the details were completed, other news came in from SD and Righty. SD passed along that the Elven Smith Vora does know how to wield and train someone to use a Githyanki Silver Sword, but the wielder must be ambidextrous and someone that he trusts. Righty passed along word with regard to the story of Parfek, the Xvart King. The story was a sad one but also encouraging for the potential to begin new relations....

Parfek was to be the youngest of the Xvart Kings at the age of only 15. The previous Kings had all had a reputation for ruthlessness and brutality. Most had gladly worked out arrangements with other vicious races to take part in raids and pillaging. It was prior Kings that had made pacts with the Liche that lived in the Castle of Darkness. Parfek was not like them and wanted to get his people off the henchmen line. He thought that they would be better off suffering as their own people instead of as basically hired slaves to the evil that always seemed to lose and his people killed. He came to be King when his father was killed on a raid on the Ethereal Plane. He attempted to break off ties with many of the evil races they previously dealt with. It was shortly after a diplomatic trip to several of those former allies that he disappeared. That was some 50 years ago......Righty

Now settled in from the past trip, Raifer sent out a scouting party to see what might be left of the Orc raiding / war party that attacked the camp. Nord, Walter Merrick, Marci Whiskerbiscuit, Clark Thereaver, Jack Walsh, Seladon Bray with Patrick O'Furniture leading, set out. The group found the tracking easy and made quick time back to the last camp site of the army. Here they found the remnants of a very organized military force, discarded garbage that was of high quality original material. Almost too good for the likes of an Orcan army. Amongst the material left behind were two wagons that an inspection revealed were of excellent quality and built in Sparta, a port town on west coast and several high quality tents in the area of 12' x 12' size. The organization of the camp and the structure with which the orcs behaved was baffling and bothersome to many in the group, but particularly to Patrick.

The group moved on and camped off the trail that night. When one of the mounted patrols from the outpost came riding by, they informed them of the old camp remnants that would be ideal to recover. The next dat came and the trail was still obvious, a fact that bothered Patrick even more. A trail that was over a week old and left by orcs should not be this evident, but the orc formation was in classic military fashion in an ordered column with wagons that left a decided trail. The lack of rain had left it intact. The trail led to a ridge that split two valleys.

As they looked down in to each valley they saw two Orcan camps, one in each area. The camp to the right was set in the open with no cover within 200 yards. Here they were able to see a few orcs about. The other camp was nestled in a grove and among brush and several orcs and mules could be seen moving about. Patrick decided to hit the camp in the open. The group circled around to the available cover and crept in. They began a charge from the edge of the trees and opened fire with bow shots once they were spotted.

Nord closed quickly as one of the orcs viewable let out an alarm. He charged to the tent and jabbed his spear through the material, skewering an orc on the other side. In response, another orc standing beside the fallen one split the meaterial to press his attack. Then the tent flew open and 8 more orcs poured out to attack. Seladon responded with an Entangle that wrapped up 3 of them. Patrick, Jack and Marci all fired bow shots hittng their targets and Walter employed an Armour spell to defend himself.

Orcs were beginning to drop and the one engaged with Nord decided to make this a hand-to-hand encouter and jumped on top of him. They wrestled around on the ground exchanging blows. Patrick, looking for a clear shot, attempted to fire past Clark at another orc, but misfired, striking and dropping Clark. Were it not for HIS Armour spell he would have been killed. The group closed on the rest of the orcs and quickly dispatched them. Marci caught what would be the last one left alive attempting to use the camp fire to send long distance signals. He was quickly disabled and surrendered.

The group then tied up their prisoner and began to search through what was left behind. The discussion then turned to what to do next. But that is for the next time.....
