Before leaving Teluna the group decided to check out the local wainwright to see if there were any designs stolen from Wheel Fix Your Wagon. And boy were there. They found a dealer, called Zandy’s, selling wagons with pretty much all of the design improvements implemented in the wagon stolen from a group backed by Raifer a while back by Zander Zisko’s raiders. And these wagons came at a good price. Hal asked for a brochure with all their upgrades and prices intending to bring this back for Raifer to see. With this information in hand they left town. The decision was made to travel back along the same line they had come in to Teluna, not risking further interaction with the Centaurs and unsure of what the ocean coast would hold.
The trip went smoothly albeit slowly due to the sandy soil. They traveled 4 days without incident b ut day 5 brought trouble. Movement was spotted in the scrub brush lining the ridge they traversed as giant frogs leaped from their cover to attack. Gwyn reacted first issuing a Prayer spell covering the entire group. The first attack caught Rennala in the hand, disabling it. With that the group began their attacks. Hal sent a Faerie Fire to illuminate one of the frogs, Illiana protected herself with a Shield 360, Gwyn brought forth a Holy Flail and the attacks began. Hal followed with a Hailstone as Morgana deflected the entangling tongue attack from a frog.
The battle now engaged Furion scored the first kill and Gwyn made contact with his flail. Hal followed with a Blur spell to help defend himself. A frog responded to Gwyn with a critical hit, wrapping its tongue around him, trying to pull him in as a meal. Fortunately it did not incapacitate him. Illiana issued an Aganaver’s Scorcher as Morgana’s Flame Blade failed to evoke. But Books and Gwyn shot forth a Spiritual Whip killing the frog holding Gwyn. Cord dropped another with an expert scimitar strike.
A frog countered back at Books with an attack, but he was able to evade the entangle as Curly dropped another and the Scorcher burned up another. With that Morgana was finally able to bring about her Flame Blade and Hal truck targets with Holy Darts. Books sent out another Spiritual Whip scoring a heavy hit as Illiana misfired a Magic Missile. Lucky for the group the frogs were having just as much trouble as many of their attacks went unconnected..
The battle was now winding down as Hal connected with more Holy Darts and Books destroyed one with a Flamehand. Cord and Hal double teamed on to kill it, Morgana sCordd a critical on another and Cord dropped one more. But with only a few left one hit Rennala cri5tically in her other arm completely disabling her ability to attack. Books and Gwyn double teamed it to destroy it with a Spiritual Whip as Hal and Furion finished the last two with attacks. The frog swarm now wiped out. They reviewed the bodies but only found one pair of legs usable as components. The rest were in terrible condition. The even tried cutting open some of the frogs to see if they had ingested anything of value but found they were likely starved
The choice was made to allow the group to recoup some of their spells before moving on. After a couple of hours they moved on. The remainder of the day was quiet and the following day travel speed picked up as the ground became more solid. They passed another wagon coming from Sentonville being driven by an OompaLloompa. His name was Piotr and he told them of a riot or raid that had happened at or near the docks in town. He was on his way to Teluna. The rest of the day was smooth and after two more days they reached just after night fall Sentonville finding it looking very much like a ghost town. There were some people scurrying in the shadows but no one could be found out in the open.
The group made their way through the deserted streets finding their way to the same inn they stayed at when they were last here. There was no one at the front desk, the mess hall was empty aside from a few abandoned, half finished plates of food. They went around back to the stables and found two horses boarded that were apparently tended but there was no one present. They set up to stay in the stable over night hoping to resolve their situation with the owner in the morning. They set up their usual watches and the morning team was amazed to see the stable hand show up as the sun was coming up. He was even more surprised to see the group. He relayed the news of the raids in town near the docks He had been in hiding, like most people in town, and had second hand information but knew someone that had seen the action. The group asked to have this witness brought around so they could figure out how to act. He left to bring back his friend Thaddeus who told the story of the raids happening primarily near the docks. A ship had come in and something like 10 to 40 raiders came off the boat and started raiding the town. Several businesses had been ransacked and the guard had been ineffective stopping them. The group made their way to the main lobby of the inn and were greeted by the owner and his rather large 4 body guards. He was happy to see them and offered a great price for rooms and their breakfast. He confirmed the information Thaddeus has provided and that the number of invaders was fuzzy and inconsistently reported. This information in hand the group decided to head for the docks to investigate.
They headed towards the docks, some prep working and some not. Illiana tried to Imbue Inteeligence on >b>Ed and Furion attempted to go Invisible but both failed. Books and Illiana decided to go stealthy as the followed the main group through town. The trip towards the docks was quiet as most town folk were still in hiding but the clear walk made it easy to see the smoke billowing up from the dock area. The moved quickly to the site to find a battle raging as they arrived. A number of local guards were engaged with a significant number of raiders. Their ship with a fire blazing on the main deck.
As they approached several crossbow bolts flew past, missing their targets. Gwyn responded with a Prayer that covered the entire team which had spread out to approach from several angles. Furion raced in to cover the side of one of the guards, giving him word that help had arrived. Hal cast Blur to defend himself and Gwyn fired off a Spiritual Whip getting the first attack in. But the raiders had their own spell casters, one loosing a Fireball that struck Cord and Hal, both dodging away to reduce the damage. The second wizard set a Shark Bolt on Furion. Illiana followed with a Magic Missile that hit hard on his target as Gwyn used the entangle effect of his Spiritual Whip to wrap up one of the wizards. Hal attempted to Dimension Door to surprise the wizard but it failed while Furion fought back to destroy the shark bolts harassing him.
Books took the opportunity to use a Stealth of Brandobaris to aid his approach and Morgana attempted, but failed, casting a Thunderclap. Hal’s second attempt at a Dimension Door worked, placing himself right next to the wizard Gwyn has tied up. Books moved in and with surprise backstabbed one of the raiders, knocking him off his feet. Cord had moved in closer now and was able to use a point blank shot to kill the first of the attackers. His shot was answered by several from the raiders perched on the deck of the boat. Furion was now able to destroy the last of the bolts, freeing himself from that distraction. Illiana had now positioned also herself for a backstab but her attack was wayward, revealing her position. As this happened Curly struck a critical blow on one and the wizard at large attempted and failed a spell of his own.
The melee was all over the docks. There were 5 groups each centered on one of the guards and a few more free standing raiders on the boat deck. Cord fired his bow, the arrow knocking the target down. All was still erratic as Gwyn’s attempted Hold Person fizzled. But Hal was now next to a wizard on deck and the wizard was wrapped up. He attacked using his martial skills, pushing the wizard from the deck overboard in to the water. Furion then dropped the second raider as Illiana’s troubles continued as she dropped her sword. The free wizard attacked with a Lightning Bolt that forked to hit Furion and Rennala. Rennala fired back at one, killing the third as Morgana failed a Hailstone spell.
Hal then looked around and spotted the doors at the rear of the ship’s deck. He used a Dimension Door to transport directly to it. He opened the door finding it was the ship’s captains quarters. Giddy, he started to look around for whatever he could find of value. The first item catching his attention was a tapestry map hanging from the wall. He pulled it down intending to use it as a hobo sack for whatever else he could grab.
The wizard now hit Furion with a Magic Missile as he closed the ground to engage the wizard. The battle began to turn now as Cord dropped one with a bow shot and Books cut down another. Curly added one of his own. But they raiders still had punch as one hit Rennala with a bolt to the head, blinding her temporarily from the gushing blood. The guards started getting their own kills too as a few more were cut down by them and Furion dispatched the last wizard. Morgana evoked a Flame Blade for herself to press the attack. Books added another back stab attack, knocking his target down. But Furion’s fortune changed as he dropped his blade during an attack. Choosing to now use his spells he voluntarily dropped his second blade to free his hands. But his first spell attempt failed. The guards dispatched a few more as Hal reached out with a Psionic Blast but the target withstood the attack. Books and Furion followed with Spiritual Whip and Icy Missile spells dropping targets. By this time Rennala had managed to make her way out of the direct melee. Cord spotted her and raced to her side giving her an extra healing potion to relieve her wounds. Curly continued his violent swath dropping another and Gwyn killed another with her hammer.
Hal was then interrupted by the other door opening. One of the raiders on deck had gone to investigate. Hal cut him off and once again used his Concentrated Push attack shoving him back and off his feet. As the raider stood he was hit by a bow shot from Furion, who had used Quick Draw to ready the weapon, killing him. Hal then shut the door and locked it, leaving him secure in the quarters to ransack at his leisure.
Books used another Spiritual Whip to kill one more and Gwyn dropped another with his hammer. The raiders last few members were then finished off in quick succession by a Spiritual Whip from Books and attacks from Furion and Curly.
And with that the battle ended.
